The name TRIZ comes from a Russian acronym meaning “theory of inventive problem solving”. TRIZ is a system for solving problem that is independent of the problem itself. Unlike most methods it starts with an ‘ideal solution’ and focuses on directly achieving it. Since its creation over 50 years ago more than 3,000,000 engineering patents have been analysed to identify their key innovative principles. These principles have been developed into a range of tools, rules and techniques.
